Growing up with Star Wars was the key inspiration for becoming an Engineer. These movies helped to show me a world full of awesome and exciting robots and technology.

January 10, 2013 - I have not been able to spend time actually in the shop fabricating, but I have been working on the skirt portion of the design. I have a solid model but I'm trying to think of a way to build/model it in pieces so the final part is lighter weight.

January 03, 2013 - I have not been able to spend much time int he last few weeks on the R2 build but I wanted to show of the leg models I did in Solidworks. I did get some high grit sand paper to help in finishing. My struggle now is to find a good way to seal MDF while not completely removing it with finish sanding. I'm hoping that the new sand paper helps me do this. I have tried wood putty and watered down wood glue. both of them have not worked as well as I would have liked.

December 26, 2012 - I have been spending a little time over the last week converting the dxf drawings from the R2D2 Builders Club supplied by member jag4351269 into Solidworks. At this point, I have finished the legs, ankles, and shoulder items. My current plan is to mill the large structural materials from MDF using my CNC machine. The small detail pieces will be fabricated with an eMaker Huxly 3D printer. My plan after finishing is to post all of my design files here. The biggest issue I'm still working out is how to create the aluminum dome for the head.
